If you have a business of any size, you no doubt understand the importance and value of branding. Your company logo plays a significant role in your branding efforts and gives others a way to connect with your business visually. Logos also help solidify the image of your business in their memories. Getting the logo right on your name tag design is important, that’s why we have provided these tips for how to design a name badge using your company logo.

Choosing the Right Name Tag Size for You

At Name Tag Pros, we offer a wide variety of sizes, including custom sizes if you have something in mind, already for your full-color logo name badge. It can be difficult to choose what size you need. This decision is based on the shape of your company logo.

Wide Company Logos

If your company logo is wide, you will want to choose a relatively deep name badge. This allows you to place the logo across the top of the name tag. Using a large enough name tag provides plenty of room to put the logo across the top and the name and job title, or other information underneath.

This is an exceptional design plan where everything is aligned in the center and there’s plenty of space for the text and your logo. The logo is still prominent and the text readable, without being squashed. Shorter name badges don’t allow enough room for a wide logo and text, and it can look too crowded.

Thin or Square Logos

If your logo is square or in a portrait orientation, you may want to choose a shorter badge so your logo can go to one side or the other. Placing the logo on the left or right side provides plenty of room to place the wearer’s name and job title on the other side. If you have no need for job titles, you have space for a tagline or motto if you’d like. This design also allows room if you’d like to use a larger font, which adds to the readability of the design.

No Logo Designs

You also have the option of keeping the name tag design simpler. You can go with a smaller name badge and still use colors that reflect your company brand. A smaller name badge has room for a line of text which contains the wearer’s name and makes it easy to read.

Logos, Background Colors, and Shapes

After choosing the size of the badge you’ll add your logo and text lines to the design. Then it’s time to choose the background color. Most businesses opt for a simple, full color background. Choose a color that complements your logo. You also have brushed silver or gold options if you’d prefer.

You still have free artistic liberty when choosing your background color. You can use a multi-colored split background if you’d like. Other options include one color under the logo and another complimentary color for the rest of the name badge.

Common Color-Related Problems

There are some mistakes that can make your name badge difficult to read, and of course, that defeats the purpose entirely. It’s important to choose name tags with shapes and colors that will be visually appealing. Some designs can make it harder to read the text, and some colors make the space look smaller. The rule of thumb is to use a dark background with light colored text and vice versa.

Matching Logos and Background Colors

Sometimes when logos are saved as files, particularly if they are a JPEG, it can have a white background around the outer edge. This is fine if it’s being placed on a white, silver, or gold background as it will not be visible. However, placing it on a colored background can cause it to show. At Name Tag Pros, we have decades of experience and will make sure that your logo looks great on your name tag. If you have an option, save your logo as a PNG or GIF file so it has a transparent background.

Aligning Text

Correctly aligning the text on a name badge is also an important consideration and a huge part of the design. Generally, the text is aligned to the center of the space it is in. That doesn’t mean that it is placed in the center of the name badge no matter what. It does mean that no matter which part of the name tag you choose to place the text, it should be in the center of that space. It can be in the center of the entire width of the name tag or centered between the logo and the other edge of the name badge.
